JEEP, A STORY LEGACY OF WWII
The Jeep brand inevitably conveys images of backpackers and wide open spaces ... Its iconic cars, born in the early 1940s, continue, 80 years later, to seduce new urban adventurers, thanks to SUVs that still bear the scars. of their illustrious ancestors.
The birth of the first Jeep at the start of the war
When the American army approached the various car manufacturers at the end of the 1930s, the specifications were simple: to have an ultra-light and all-terrain vehicle, which could offer these characteristics:
- Four-wheel drive
- Inter-wheel spacing less than 1.49 m
- Payload including passengers of 817 kg
The builder Bantam employs the designer Karl Probst, to whom we owe the inimitable style of the brand. But Bantam designs a vehicle that is too heavy. It was then the manufacturers Willys and Ford who won the tender and the first vehicle, codenamed Willys, began its military career in the summer of 1941.
THE 4X4 JEEP, A HISTORICAL REFERENCE
The expert battle over the origins of the word Jeep is far from over. Some see it as a reference to its sobriety, others to its versatility or adaptability. The brand can in any case be proud of a noble lineage since the first Jeeps were intended for liaison with the command and support for transmissions in the American army during the Second World War. Based on this genealogy, the American brand has retained an adventurous spirit oriented towards overcoming obstacles and robustness.
Yet Jeep has never ceased to question its knowledge in order to offer vehicles adapted to contemporary needs. The Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee are the most emblematic heirs of this tradition oriented towards permanent innovation. Current models are the result of many years of research and multiple updates and their performance has been readjusted many times to meet the expectations of today's consumers.
ALL TERRAIN JEEP, THE SPIRIT OF A MANUFACTURER
Jeep's dynamism can be explained today by two main aspects of its commercial policy which prevails in the very design of its vehicles. The company first took a sharp turn with an increasingly important consideration of the quality of finish and style of its vehicles. In addition to robustness and reliability, style is now a must for Jeep. This is evidenced by the aesthetic care given to the new Compass or the Renegade, both of which proudly assume their origins but also display a certain impertinence in full harmony with today's tastes.
However, the very essence of the brand lies in its sporting side. This is surely one of the reasons why Jeep has established itself so naturally among the world's largest SUV manufacturers. Even when it produced a versatile model like the Compass, which was equally at home in the city as it did on rough terrain, experts couldn't help but notice the American brand's superiority over its competitors when it came to sporty handling. To believe that crossing is second nature for the brand which can now claim to play on all fronts, whether urban or wild.
